What is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE)

A Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) is a health professional who has done a postgraduate certificate in diabetes education, and who has completed a rigorous credentialling program through the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) to denote their specialist knowledge in the field of diabetes.

Contrary to popular belief, a CDE is not just part of your care when you are newly diagnosed with diabetes. A CDE’s role is to continue to provide support and up to date education to empower you so that you can create a management strategy that best suits your lifestyle. This is particularly the case if you are unsure about your current management strategy or if you are not reaching your health related goals.

There is not a “one size fits all” approach to diabetes management, and a CDE is there to provide individualised care. CDEs help guide individuals through life’s transitions.
